What do you call seven first-round picks and one Mr. Irrelevant? The remaining quarterbacks in the 2023-24 NFL playoffs. Among the remaining QBs in the field are a two-time Super Bowl champion in Patrick Mahomes and po sibly the next two-time NFL MVP in Lamar Jackson. Those two stars would be ranked No. 1 and No. 2 acro s most present-day rankings . What about their college careers? The announcers are bound to expand on the college days of each of these quarterbacks this weekend. Yes, Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant, but before that he led Iowa State to an unprecedented season. Baker Mayfield and C.J. Stroud made the College Football Playoff, and Josh Allen and Jordan Love rose to stardom in the Mountain West Conference. Sporting News flipped the rankings a bit. We ranked the eight remaining playoff quarterbacks by their college careers. This list turned out a little bit different Lonnie Chisenhall Jersey than expected. NFL POWER RANKINGS: NFL playoff QBs ranked by college careers 1.Baker Mayfield Colleges: Texas Tech, Oklahoma Record as starter: 38-8 Stats: 14,607 yards, 131 TDs, 30 INTs 2018 NFL Draft: No. 1, Cleveland Mayfield transferred from Texas Tech after one season, and he pieced together an incredible career at Oklahoma. He was a three-time Heisman Trophy finalist, and he won the award in 2017. Mayfield led the Sooners to a pair of College Football Playoff appearances, including a 54-48 lo s to Georgia in the 2018 Rose Bowl. Mayfield played with an unmatched swagger. Who could forget the infamous flag plant at Ohio Stadium after he led the Sooners to a 31-16 victory on Sept. 9, 2017. Oklahoma was 6-2 against top-10 teams with Mayfield at quarterback. He's one of four players to win Sporting News Player of the Year honors twice, along with Howard Ca sady, Billy Cannon and Archie Griffin. Mayfield now has playoff victories with Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the NFL. 2. Lamar Jackson College: Louisville Record as starter: 23-11 Stats: 9,043 yards, 69 TDs, 27 INTs 2018 NFL Draft: No. 32, Baltimore Jackson also had 4,132 rushing yards and 50 TDs in his three seasons with the Cardinals. He took over the starting job as a freshman, and the Music City Bowl victory against Texas A&M foreshadowed a brilliant sophomore year. In 2016, Jackson erupted with a Heisman Trophy-winning season that included 3,543 pa sing yards, 1,571 rushing yards and 51 total TDs. The eight-TD performance against Charlotte, iconic leap against Syracuse and 63-20 victory against No. 5 Florida State were part of that season. The duels with Clemson were legendary, and Jackson was the most unstoppable force in college football for two years. Jackson has continued that succe s with the Baltimore Ravens. MORE PLAYOFFS:|| 3. C.J. Stroud Colleges: Ohio State Record as starter: 21-4 Stats: 8,123 yards, 85 TDs, 12 INTs 2023 NFL Draft: No. 2, Houston Stroud inherited a high bar left by Justin Fields heading into the 2021 season. Stroud struggled in his second start in a lo s to Oregon, but he played at a high level for the rest of the next two seasons. Stroud finished fourth in the Heisman voting in 2021 and third in 2022. He had more than 300 yards pa sing in 15 of those 25 career starts. Stroud was 0-2 against Michigan but he averaged 371.5 pa sing yards in those lo ses. Stroud pa sed for 348 yards and four TDs in his final start a 42-41 lo s to Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Stroud led the Texans to the NFL playoffs after Houston went 3-13-1 the previous season. 4. Brock Purdy College: Iowa State Record as starter: 29-17 Stats: 12,170 yards, 81 TDs, 33 INTs 2022 NFL Draft: No. 262, San Francisco Purdy was a three-star quarterback and a four-year starter for the Cyclones. He was teammates with David Montgomery as a freshman then formed a dynamic backfield tag-team with Breece Hall the next three seasons. Iowa State reached the Fiesta Bowl in 2020, and Purdy had 156 pa sing yards and a TD in a 34-17 victory against Oregon. Iowa State was 1-4 against top-10 teams and 0-3 against rival Iowa with Purdy, but Purdy helped coach Matt Campbell produce four straight winning seasons in Ames for the first time since 1905-08. Given the program, the succe s is amazing. Purdy is back in the playoffs for the second straight season with San Francisco. Getty Images 5. Patrick Mahomes II College: Texas Tech Record as starter: 13-16 Stats: 11,252 yards, 93 TDs, 29 INTs 2017 NFL Draft: No. 10, Kansas City Mahomes made his first start against Texas as a freshman on Nov. 1, 2014, and he remained the starter for the next two-plus seasons. Mahomes had 11 games with 400 pa sing yards or more with Texas Tech in those Air Raid teams with Kliff Kingsbury, and he set the FBS single-game record with 734 pa sing yards in a 66-59 shootout lo s to Baker Mayfield-led Oklahoma on Oct. 22, 2016. Mahomes also played for the baseball team at Texas Tech. Mahomes was 0-9 as a starter against ranked teams in college a far cry from his NFL postseason succe s with the Kansas City Chiefs. 6. Jared Goff College: Cal Record as starter: 14-23 Stats: 12,195 yards, 96 TDs, 30 INTs 2016 NFL Draft: No. 1, Los Angeles Rams Goff was a talented quarterback who started three years for some rough Cal teams. Goff started as a freshman for first-year coach Sonny Dykes in 2013. Goff improved with each season, and finshed third in the FBS in pa sing yards (4,714) and TDs (43) in his junior season. The lack of succe s Richard Rodriguez Jersey on the field is tough to measure because the Golden Bears were in rebuilding mode when he arrived as a freshman, and his talent was enough to convince the Rams to use the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. 7. Jordan Love Colleges: Utah State Record as starter: 21-11 Stats: 8,600 yards, 60 TDs, 29 INTs 2020 NFL Draft: No. 26, Green Bay Love took over as the starter for the Aggies in the final six games of his freshman season, and he had his best season as a sophomore. Love pa sed for 3,567 yards, 32 TDs and six interceptions and led Utah State to a 52-13 victory against North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl. The Aggies slipped to 7-6 the following season and lost to Kent State in the Frisco Bowl, but Love had attracted the attention of NFL scouts with his arm. The Aggies were 0-5 against ranked teams with Love, but they were heavy underdogs in all of those games. That will be the case for Green Bay against San Francisco this week. 8. Josh Allen Colleges: Reedley College, Wyoming Record as starter: 17-12 Stats: 5,066 yards, 44 TDs, 21 INTs 2018 NFL Draft: No. 7, Buffalo Allen did not get much attention from recruiters despite a 6-5, 233-pound frame. He attended Reedley College before transferring to Wyoming. He suffered a broken collarbone in his first start and mi sed the 2015 season. Allen started every game for the Cowboys after, and he added 727 rushing yards and 12 TDs over the next two seasons. Allen led Wyoming to upset victories against ranked Boise State and San Diego State teams in 2016, and he closed his college career with three TD pa ses in a 37-14 victory against Central Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Allen is 5-4 in the postseason with the Buffalo Bills.
