Who is next for the Newcastle United hot seat
Mike Ashley is looking for his fifth permanent manager since buying Newcastle United in 2007 after Alan Pardew opted to head to South London and a three and a half year contract with his former club Crystal Palace.Managing Director Lee Charnley along with Chief Scout Graham Carr will be tasked with appointing the man to replace the un-liked Pardew and hopefully winning over the Toon faithful in the proce s.Many names have been mentioned and a few ex-players have chipped in with their suggestionsIll review the bookies favorites and a few others: Remi Garde 2/1The 48-year-old may be only be known to Toon fans for his stint at Arsenal during his playing days but in his 117 games as Lyon bo s he racked up 60 wins to give him an impre sive 51.28% win ratio in three years in Ligue 1 but only produced a Coupe De France and Trophe Des Champions with a decent Lyon team.Currently unemployed so the start now/no compensation would appeal to the frugal Ashley.John Carver 14/1Current caretaker Manager is a po sible candidate to get the job until at least the end of the season but you wouldnt imagine he will get the top job permanently, Blank Jersey that said Ashley appointed football dinosaur Joe Kinnear so god only knowsCarvers CV is mainly A sistant Manager roles apart from a stint at MLS side Toronto FC which was uneventful.Glenn Hoddle 16/1Ex-Chelsea, England and Spurs Manager out of the game since 2006 but now back coaching at QPR, has been linked with every vacant manager position going I think. Hoddle is now 57 and if chosen for this role youd imagine it would be his last crack at a decent job.Hoddle is known to be a tactical guru and his links to former Spurs scout Carr and Ashleys supposed love for Spurs as a kid could see him firmly in the frame.Tim Sherwood16/1Wide boy Tim Sherwood has mi sed out on the jobs at Palace and WBA TWICE and the Brighton role and questions have to be asked why he didnt get any of those positions.Tims time as Spurs Manager was succe sful in games/wins % but its said that he firmly talked himself out of a job at Ryan O'Hearn Jersey Spurs.Sherwood is doubtful as he would slot back in to the Cockney Mafia mould that Ashley will perhaps want to avoid again.Christophe Galtier 20/1The St Etienne bo s guided his side to fourth place in Ligue 1 last season, into the Europa League and with the French League Cup win in 2013, with an average St Etienne side thats a decent achievement.Graham Carr will be well aware of 48-year-old Galtiers technical style of play having spent most of the last 4 years in France scouting players.Thomas Tuchel 25/1Tuchel is currently under contract at Mainz but isnt working for them having asked to be released from his contract early, this slightly odd situation would be resolved at the end of the season though, Carver could potentially hold the reigns until then. Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen were both interested in him and he is thought to be the new Jurgen Klopp (before this seasons weird start for the Dortmund club) and no doubt would bring a new air to St James Park as he is a known teetotaler and is a keen designer of furnitureMy personal tip for the jobFrank De Boer 33/1The very succe sful Dutchman was heavily linked to the Spurs job last summer before Levy offered it to Poch. FDB has made it clear previously he would not walk away from Ajax mid-season so again Carver would have to steer the ship until then. De Boer will be the NUFC preferred choice but you would have to wonder if the Ajax bo s would leave Champions League football to go there & with the Liverpool job perhaps coming up in the summer depending on how Rodgers finishes the season he might sit put for now.
